Public Hospital Systems are Eager to Work with Governor-Elect Becerra on Solutions to California’s Health Care Crisis
(OAKLAND, CA) – Katie Rodriguez, Interim President and CEO of the California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems (CAPH), released the following statement in response to Xavier Becerra’s election as the 41st Governor of California.
“We congratulate Governor-elect Xavier Becerra and are eager to partner on solutions to prevent an unprecedented health care crisis resulting from H.R. 1, the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act. A giant crack is emerging in our health care system, which is compounded by state budget cuts to Medi-Cal. The choices our state leaders make will determine how many Californians and how much of our essential health care infrastructure falls into it. Governor-elect Becerra’s pledge to preserve health coverage and access to vital health care services on day one will bring stability to millions of Californians while bolstering the health care system’s capacity to sustain services and meet increased demand from all of the patients who count on us, regardless of coverage. As California develops solutions to withstand the growing impacts of H.R. 1, we look forward to working with the incoming administration and lawmakers to ensure the state’s 17 public hospital systems can continue serving as the backbone of health care in California.”
